Cambodia sits in the heart of South East Asia, on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand between Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. The country is famous for its ancient temples and cultural experiences, and travelers shouldn’t overlook its beautiful beaches and unique cityscapes.
The enormous temple of Angkor Wat is Cambodia’s most famous attraction, and for good reason. It is less of a temple, and more of an ancient city complex with plenty to explore.
Phnom Penh is the country’s capital and gives visitors a look into the French colonial footprint with leafy riverside boulevards and French-Cambodian food. See the Royal Palace and the hilltop temple Wat Phnom. The city also offers a look into the darker side of Cambodia’s past: the horrors of the Khmer Rouge under dictator Pol Pot. The Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum is a former prison and now an educational resource, and interested travelers can also visit the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center just south of the city.
