The Seychelles, located off the east coast of Africa, are a renowned honeymoon destination and the perfect place for a romantic or secluded getaway.
The country has a mixed history, drawing culture from Africa, Arabia, India, China, Britain and France, and the local Creole language feels like a blend of all the above. Its history includes pirates, slaves, traders and colonists, but now is mostly frequented by tourists searching for sun-drenched shores.
Adventurous visitors can explore the mountain rainforests in search of secluded waterfalls and endangered black parrots. Several of the islands are home to the rare Aldabra giant tortoises.
The beaches are the main attraction in this archipelago, and each resort has its own patch of sand. Praslin island has some fantastic spots, and Anse Source D'Argent is considered one of the world’s best beaches. Those interested in diving should investigate the Ennerdale wreck, a sunken British Royal Navy tanker, or head to Aldabra Atoll and Mahé to see hundreds of fish species, manta rays, sharks and octopi.
